America has a problem with its health. People eat too many bad things and sit all day and wonder why obesity is an epidemic and Cardiovascular Disease is the #1 killer of Americans. This project was started with trying to find a way to improve the general public's health in the most effective way, leading to two choices: Eating or Exercise. People often react poorly to being told to improve their eating, seeing it as a punishment, however exercise is more often seen as a proactive way to contribute to good health by people trying to improve their habits.
The Fitness Playground brings back a youthful notion from Grade School that we often forget as we become adults. EVERY DAY during the day we all need to get up and move our bodies if we expect them to function properly. The Fitness Playground allows adults to take short breaks from their work day to move their bodies, lose unwanted weight and gain muscle using progressive movements that easily scale to the user's skill level as instructed by the surrounding E-ink instruction walls.
Redesign of a knee crutch for non-weight-bearing lower-leg injuries. Mine is a low tech solution that uses bent plywood and a locking key connection to provide a user friendly way to stay active with an injured ankle. The knee crutch allows users to keep use of their hands during use unlike traditional crutches, and the key mechanism keeps the thigh plate and shin plate locked together while walking, but allows for easy disassembly for partial removal while sitting or for storage.
The problem is that jugglers, whether hobby or professional, have a wide variety of props they need to carry with them. The standard set of props are: balls, clubs and rings, making most normal bags either too small or too big and unorganized. They need a better way to haul their props.
With this project of designing a chair I wanted to test the flexibility of wood in creating something warm and inviting to sit in, while still visually interesting and possessing sculptural elements that remain interesting when viewed from any angle.
Bike Patrol Bag
Designing a Citizen Bike Patrol bag to make bike patrol volunteering a little easier, more convenient and less physically discomforting. The bag provides easily recognizable patroller branding that always remains outside the outermost layer of clothing and it provides a convenient and compact way to carry all necessities. The padded bike-lock belt is a feature for comfort that easily detaches from the backpack by zipper.
Bug vacuums are a convenient way to dispose of household pests without poison, unsightly traps or having to clean up the mess smushing them leaves behind. This redesign incorporates an enclosed handle to reduce accidental dropping, a reversed suction feature to ease in the removal of bugs from the chamber, and a rechargeable battery so that the suction is always at full strength.
